In timpul cruciadelor a venit randul manastirii sa apere moscheea si asa a strabatut veacurile, fiecare Casa a Domnului luand-o sub aripa sa ocrotitoare pe cealalta in vreme ce armatele dusmane veneau si plecau". (Ahdaf Soueif despre o manastire din Egipt) / "The building [the monastery] was looking more like a medieval castle and it was established in the 6th century, and soon after that, when the Muslim army was on the offensive in the West coming from Arab Peninsula, somebody was very inspired and built a small mosque in its backyard, to protect the monastery from fires or demolition.
